From a sermon preached by Bishop Wolfe at the annual Chrism Mass on April 7, 2009 When I review our ordination vows, they seem to fall into a few distinct categories: The promise to listen to others. And because these promises are deceptively hard to keep, we need to stick together. If you are feeling alone and isolated in this diocese, it is time for you to call a fellow priest. If you feel as if no one understands you, it is time for you to call a brother or sister deacon. It is no secret that clergy who are deeply connected to one another find that to be a strong resource in times of trouble. When you’re too busy to attend clericus, when you don’t invite one another to dinner, when you don’t come to Convocation meetings or annual retreats, when you don’t call one another up when you think there might be a problem, then you have not kept that most important commandment to look after one another; to love others as you yourself have been loved.
