Dear friends and members of ECW: It is an honor to be the new president of the Episcopal Church Women of the Diocese of Kansas. I have served on the ECW board for six years – first as Southeast Convocation Chair and then as Publicity Chair. My involvement has provided opportunities to make many friendships with Episcopal women in the diocese. I value these relationships with women who share the same values – caring for one another and those in need of our support and help. I am very proud to inform you of your ECW board’s decision to support the Millennium Development Goals by committing 10 percent of the 2008 Fair Share payments received to a mission project for women and children. We are inviting each parish to vote for one of the four MDGs which pertain to women and/or children: Goal 2 – Achieve universal primary education; The MDG goal with the most votes will be announced at the ECW Annual Gathering Oct. 4, 2008 in Wichita. This effort is exciting because it gives Episcopal Church Women of the Diocese of Kansas the opportunity to unite in pursuit of a common goal which will benefit women and children. The level of our success depends on the participation and support of all of us. Your ECW board has set two goals for 2008: 1) increase the relevance of ECW in the diocese, and In recent years, the ECW of the Diocese of Kansas has been primarily supported by the parishes in the SE and SW Convocations. We hope those of you in the NE and NW convocations will choose to participate and represent yourselves in the ECW organization. How can you do this? 1) Participate in the ECW Annual Gathering Oct. 4, 2008. Our speaker Sybil MacBeth will lead us in exploring “Praying in Color.” 2) Contact an ECW board member and share your ideas or suggestions for increasing the relevancy of ECW in the Diocese of Kansas. 3) Support our request for Fair Share support from your parish by contacting your ECW treasurer, ECW representative and/or parish treasurer. Let us work together for an ECW that is more relevant in today’s world. Lonnie Isaak, ECW President |
