Kansas School for Ministry
If you are interested in attending the Kansas School for Ministry as preparation for ordination as a deacon or priest, you first must be admitted as a Nominee for ordination.
Please go HERE to find out more about how to apply to become a Nominee, as well as additional information about the process leading toward ordination.
What is KSM?
The Kansas School for Ministry (KSM) is a diocesan school dedicated to providing high-quality theological education and formation for all members of the diocese who are preparing to take up a particular ministry (ordained or otherwise) or who simply would like to learn more about the faith and practice of the church.
Many of those who enroll at the school are preparing for ordination to the diaconate or the presbyterate, but those called to other non-ordained forms of ministry are also invited to participate in KSM courses.
The school follows an academic calendar and offers courses every month from August through May; typically, more than one course is offered during any given month. All the courses are facilitated by people who have completed some form of advanced theological studies; many of the instructors also serve as active clergy.
The format for each course allows for a combination of classroom instruction, independent study and online learning. Each course lasts a total of eight weeks. Students devote the first four weeks to completing preparatory assignments in anticipation of the class meeting, and following the class meeting, students complete any additional research and assignments needed for their final assessment.
Class meetings generally take place during the second weekend of each month during the academic year. Sessions convene at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and conclude around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. All class meetings take place at the Bethany Place Conference Center, 835 SW Polk St., near downtown Topeka.
The coordinator of KSM is the Rev. Andrew Grosso, Ph.D. He also serves as rector of Trinity, Atchison, and as canon theologian for the Diocese of Kansas. He can be reached via e-mail or telephone, (913) 367-3171.
Course of studies
KSM currently offers two programs for those preparing for ordained ministry – a two-year program for those preparing for ministry as deacons and a three-year program for those preparing for ministry as priests.

Enrollment
During the 2011-2012 academic year, the cost for each course will be $150 for those in the ordination process and $100 for special students (those not pursuing ordination). Course fees cover tuition, overnight accommodations and three meals (dinner on Friday, breakfast and lunch on Saturday) while classes are in session at the Bethany Place Conference Center. The cost of books and other materials are not included.
In order to maintain the best faculty-student ratio, each course has an enrollment cap, and courses may vary in the number of students admitted.
Those interested in enrolling in a particular course are encouraged to register as early as possible; the deadline for registration for each course is four weeks prior to each class session.
To enroll, or for more information, contact the Kansas School for Ministry coordinator, the Rev. Andrew Grosso, (913) 367-3171 or by e-mail.
