The final legal documents have been signed that separate Christ Church, Overland Park from the Episcopal Church and the Episcopal Diocese of Kansas. The separation agreement itself was signed on Wednesday, April 27. The transfer of the property from the previous Christ Episcopal Church to the new Christ Church entity was finalized Friday, April 29. The process of removing two people as Episcopal clergy has begun. The Rev. Ronald McCrary, rector, and Deacon D.O. Smart were inhibited by Bishop Dean E. Wolfe on Wednesday, April 27, after the separation agreement was finalized. Inhibition is a form of suspension that prevents the two from functioning as ordained Episcopal clergy. In six months they will be deposed, which will relieve them of their ordination vows. For more information on the terms of the separation agreement, click here. |
