The Episcopal Church Women are opening their fall annual gathering to all members of the Diocese of Kansas so they can hear special keynote speaker Bishop Barbara Harris.

The day-long event will take place Saturday, Oct. 7, at St. James’ Church, 3750 East Douglas, in Wichita.

The deadline to register is Sept. 23.

Harris will speak at 1 p.m. with the theme “Making the gospel come alive: living what we say.” She also will preach at the Eucharist at 10:30 a.m.

Bishop Dean Wolfe will be the celebrant at that service. He also will address the group briefly at 9 a.m.

The cost to attend the event is $30 for the entire day, $25 for lunch and the afternoon program or $15 for the afternoon program only.

Bishop Harris, now the assisting bishop of Washington (D.C.), was the first woman bishop in the Anglican Communion when she became suffragan bishop of Massachusetts in 1989.

9 a.m. - Business meeting and address by Bishop Wolfe

10:30 a.m. - Holy Eucharist, Bishop Wolfe celebrating and Bishop Harris preaching

Noon - Lunch

1 p.m. - Address by Bishop Harris
