Wyoming dean entertains church women’s annual gathering Razer City is part Lake Woebegone and part Mitford, but stories of this mythical city and its St. Peter’s Episcopal Church of the Pearly Gates rang true for people attending the annual gathering of the Episcopal Church Women of the diocese Sept. 29 at Grace Cathedral, Topeka. Tales of Razer City, Wyo., were spun by the Very Rev. Marilyn Engstrom, dean of St. Matthew’s cathedral in Laramie, Wyo., who was the event’s keynote speaker. She said the town was loosely based on one where she had served as parish rector. She’s developed a handful of stories about parishioners at St. Peter’s and their rector, the Rev. J. Vicar Alexander III. She wowed women at last summer’s national ECW Triennial Meeting with them, and she says they do occasionally find their way into a sermon or newsletter article. She also spoke of how different generations need each other, using the meeting’s theme, “Today’s Puzzle: Multi-generational Living and Relationships.” Puzzle pieces decorated tables and encouraged participants to come together to share stories. |
