New youth peer ministers selected
Nine teens from across the diocese have been named new peer ministers for the youth program of the Episcopal Diocese of Kansas. They will join eight young people who return to that ministry from the last school year. Peer ministers receive special training to help them serve as mentors and support to other teens in youth programs across the diocese, according to Chad Senuta, diocesan youth coordinator. They attend two annual retreats and also have the hands-on training of assuming leadership responsibilities at youth events. Senuta said growth is the purpose of the peer ministry program in the diocese. “It provides high school students in the diocese an opportunity to grow in their faith, receive training in ministry and life skills, assume roles of liturgical leadership, welcome other students into the body of Christ and develop other young leaders,” he said. Senuta said the young people also are encouraged to develop a practice of personal daily devotion. To become a peer minister, interested teens submitted applications, which were screened by Senuta and the peer ministers from last school year. New additions to the peer ministry team were announced in early September.
