| What
is the purpose of the Diocesan Peer Ministry Program?
The Peer Ministry Program seeks
to fulfill our mission by providing an opportunity for high school students
in the Diocese of Kansas to grow in their faith, receive training in ministry
and life skills, assume roles of liturgical leadership, welcome other
students into the body of Christ, and develop other young leaders.
How do the Peer Ministers serve the Diocese? Peer Ministers are encouraged to develop a practice of a personal daily devotional. They receive training in ministry through 2 yearly retreats in addition to the “hands on” training of assuming leadership responsibilities at diocesan youth events. Finally, peer ministers seek to “reproduce” leaders by mentoring peers and inviting them to partake in leadership. What is the process to become a Diocesan Peer Minister? Diocesan Peer Ministers are selected by an application process. Applications are reviewed by a selection committee consisting of the youth coordinator and adults who are youth ministers and former peer ministers. Peer Ministers for 2007-2008 have been selected. Applications for 2008-2009 will be sent to parishes this summer and available here to download. Can Peer Ministry be done at the Parish Level? Definitely! To learn more about how to start a Peer Ministry group at your parish, contact the Youth Coordinator or visit the National Peer Ministry Web Site.
